Nokomis

If you feel like baby has an old yet familiar soul, you might consider the beautiful Native American name Nokomis. It is believed to mean "my grandmother" and comes from traditional Ojibwe stories as the name of Nanabozho's grandmother. Nanabozho is a spirit, cultural hero, and trickster figure in traditional storytelling, particularly among the Ojibwe people. Nokomis was also the name of Hiawatha's grandmother in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem The Song of Hiawatha. Nokomis is also believed to mean "daughter of the moon," helping to always light the way for baby even in the darkest of nights.
