It's my favorite boy name but my hubby doesn't like it. Which makes me pretty bummed. Maybe he'll come around.
by meliboo315@CombatBarbie29 and anneg03... Too funny! My husband really likes the name Declan (he is Irish). So the other day at work, because this is of course all I can think about, I was trying to come up with middle names and I texted him "I like 'Declan James'"! For some reason, I think it just goes and sounds nice! It's at the top of our list for boys! Congrats to you all! :)
by skph2011We are naming our son Declan James. I am part Irish and my husband is part Scottish. He really wanted a Celtic name and we both have grandfathers that were named James so I am totally in love with this name! I have also seen the name used on Law and Order... that is really funny. I stuck with the traditional spelling despite the fact that no one seems to be able to spell it correctly.
by CombatBarbie29My husband saw it used on Criminal Minds and now he wants it. I'm not too sure about it though...
by MrsBrandoMy grandfather's mother was Declandewy. We were going to name our daughter Declan, short from Declandewy, but another name for this baby stuck. We will have to save it for our next baby! I love the name and it has history in my family.
by ButtdumplingWe are naming our son Declan James and he is due any day now! Cant wait to see his perfect little face :) I am half Irish and my husband is Mexican so Declan will be a great melting pot with his first and last name!
by anneg03My husband and I just named our first son Declan Wayne (Wayne is a family name). I have had this name picked out for the past 5 years and luckily my husband loved it. I am worried it will get too popular now that TV shows are using it (Degrassi and Revenge). Also, I think you should always go with the traditional spelling, despite pronunciation confusion. And I keep having people call him, "Da-Clon" anyone else having this happen? I just laugh, clearly these people need to return to grammar school!
by Josierenee318I am being induced on Friday June 29th and we are naming our son Declan. We have a 3 year old daughter also and her name is Delaney, another Irish name as my husband is Irish. I found on a website sibling names for Declan and it had Delaney's name on it so we knew we needed to go with Declan. Love the name
by liyahc9I've loved the name Declan for a while. When I was pregnant with my 5 year old daughter she was going to be Declan had she been a boy. 2 1/2 years after her birth we were blessed with our baby boy and named him Declan. As the name increased in popularity, my husband and I wanted to come up with a good nickname for him but didn't like the traditional ones(Dec, Decy). We also didn't want him to be referred to by his first name and last initial if there was another Declan in his class at school. Consequently we decided to give him the middle name Xavier so his nickname is "Dex." We that it was a cute and unique alternative :)
by mom2FiandDexMy son is named Deklan Alzias (middle name was my grandfather's name) and everyone loves his name. I have not been able to find my grandfather's name anywhere ever though, have tried everything to search for origin for it.
by Rushfan9My fiance (who's 1/2 Irish) and I are going with the alternate spelling: Deaglan. Can't imagine baby being anything else!
by laharpeLove this name it's on my list too!
by marisy8My son Declan is now almost 7 years old and we still love the name! We have four kids, pregnant with #5, and Declan is still my favorite of all of our kids' names. And the coolest thing is that EVERYONE knows Declan. It took a while to grow on me but once it did, I was sold.
by kstinw1970Me & my DF are not irish at all, but fell in love with this name after watching a movie. We already had the name picked out before I even got pregnant! & it's a boy! his name is Declan Joseph :)
by carleaaxoLove love love this name. It's not heard a whole lot here in Nova Scotia but yet people can still pronounce it. I'm 9 weeks with my first child and if it is a boy he will be Decklyn Patrick Allen. Couldn't be happier. :)
by athalia1446Very popoular name and its cute while being masculine too.
by CamsMommy0813I love it so much that my husband and I named our son 7 week old son Declan! My husband wanted to name the baby an Irish name since his is mostly Irish, and this was the name we both fell in love with. Most people get it right, but many people are like, "What?!" when we tell them his name. I get Dee clan too from the doctors and others who read the name, its like hello?! Sound it out, LOL! :)
by cdonofrio74love it!
by nancymikeWe decided on this name to embrace our Irish heritage. I love it. It is the perfect. We keep getting it mispronounced as ducklan, but that is usually from children under 5. Deeclan I can not see.
by timzwifeOur son Declan is almost 1 year old!! We LOVE his name and didn't really know it was getting so popular. It is a family name on my husband's side. It does get frustrating when the receptionist at his doctor always calls him Dee-clan :(
by Cam2236If we have a boy Declan Thomas will be his name!
by EWildayHow could you possibly mispronounce Declan? Dee-clan?
by kellibuczekdeclan is my favorite boys name!
by dixneufour baby Declan will be here in january :)
by Kristyasa20If we have a boy, we will spell it "Dechlan."
by corkymarlerI love this name A LOT. But my husband saw it and pronounced it wrong first thing. Anybody notice problems with that? I assumed it was obvious but now I'm second guessing...ugh a different spelling would cut down on pronunciation issues but i like the traditional spelling only.
by kjs2012very different - love the meaning
by reganloveMy husband and I both love this name, so far it's the only one ;) but probably will spell it Deklan and for middle either Jett or James.
by EzzaRbearLove it :)
by EricaJ16This is our pick for a boy name...but my husband wants to spell it Declin. I really like Declan which seems to be the most common spelling.
by Candrea120Our first son (due in May) will be Eoin (Owen) and our if we have a second we have the name Declan picked out. I was hoping it would not get popular but we will see when the time comes for #2.
by yellowbee0526We named our son Declan and I am so happy we did. My husband is actually the one that found the name and I wasn't crazy about it at first, but it grew on me. When Declan was born, it just fit him.
by Soon2BSimsMy son's name is Deklin. We loved the name from the start and we never changed our minds. It's getting popular but no where near some names. I know at least 5 Logan's born within a 2 mth period.
by Megs131My son (Declan) is only 2 years old - and already I know 4 other Declan's!! Its popularity has really taken off.
by Miss29First time I ever heard this name on was Degrassi.. thought it was weird at first, but the more I hear it, the more I like it.
by NBleauthe same this happened to me KerMc! i texted my husband and asked what he thought about the name and got the EXACT same response. Once he thought about it for a few minutes, he told me he loved it too!
by danadane182I agree with you jlte2004. Ive loved LOVED Evan for so long and now that I am expecting my 1st we have taken Evan off the table. It seems like every new baby boy has been named Evan. I know 4 just in the past 7 months! I am in LOVE with Declan. I brought the name and suggestion home to my hubby and he went huh???!!! Then after he left for work, he texted me about 2 hours later and said he really RELLY loved it!
by KerMcReally like it! Worried it might get too popular.
