I actually like the name Frances a lot. :) Clara Frances Louise will be our daughter's (rather lengthy) name should our LO turn out to be a girl. My husband's cousin is "Mary Frances", and she's the most precious little button there is. I think it's difficult as a first name- very old-fashioned, but there are plenty of nice names to pair it with!
by LauraSF16It's not a "pretty" name but it was my grandmother's name who I loved dearly. She passed this year and won't know of my baby, unfortunately. I want to pay homage to her in some way, either by using "Frances" as a middle name or her mother's name, Ernestina, which I love. You can't even find Ernestina on this website it's so rare. I could also use a variation of Frances such as "Francine" or Frank for a boy.
by SamanthaskywalkerMy name is Frances and I've always disliked it. I was named after a great-grandmother and I thought of it as old-fashioned. I've gone by middle name since I was a child and I was only ever called Frances when I was in trouble or on the first day of school. Which reminds me, Franny,Fanny, Francis of Asisi, Francis the Talking mule were all common tants on the playground. And no one ever spells "Frances" right, they always want to spell it "Francis", which is the masculine version. I plan on changing my name legally when I get married, as no one who I send the invitations to knows who "Frances" is.
