by futurestayathomemomLOVE this name! We first learned of this name when one of my husband's favorite surfers, Keala Kennelly played a character named Kai on HBO's John from Cincinatti. For a while, I had a hard time talking hubby into the name, although he loved it as a nickname. We have decided on Kaiya Eileen if we have a girl, and will call her Kai.

by jghmd23It actually means sea, but sea, ocean; same difference. Hawaiian and Polynesian names are gender neutral there are no boy specific or girl specific names. But that's not really followed today. I think there are a lot more Maori speakers than Hawaiian speakers. Isn't there still Maori television stations? It would be great if native languages became stronger though. :) (My major was Hawaiian language, sorry if this is more info. than needed)
