Jene

Jene is a girl’s name of Hebrew origin. It is a variant of Jane and Jean, both of which derive from John. John is itself an English translation of the Hebrew boy’s name Yochanan, meaning “God is gracious.” In England and Scotland, Jean is a popular girl’s name, but in France it’s mostly used for boys, with Jeanne being its feminine form. Additionally, Jean in English is pronounced differently to Jean in French. Choosing the less common spelling of Jene will prevent confusion over whether baby’s name is the French Jean or the English Jean.
