Origin:Greek
Meaning:Liberator
Ysander is a masculine name of Greek origin. Closely related to Lysander, it’s made up of lysis meaning “freedom” and andros meaning “man.” Put them together, and it would read as “liberator.” History remembers Lysander as a Spartan military and political leader who became the first Greek to whom the cities erected altars and sacrificed to as a god. He was even the first Greek to have had songs of triumph written about him. A few centuries down the lane, the moniker shot to fame when William Shakespeare named his hero in A Midsummer Night’s Dream as Lysander. While this name is apt for a free-spirited child, it can also encourage them to be a part of something bigger than themselves.
